Halloween & Your Home

With all Hallows eve fast approaching, here are some ideas to make your home (& neighborhood) safe and inviting for all the little ghouls and goblins.

Cool kid on the block:

Face it, we all want to be the “cool” home that all the kids rave about the next day – You know, the one with the giant-sized candy bars or creepiest haunted house. Equally important (but maybe not as cool) is creating a safe environment for trick or treaters. Be sure to clear your drive and walkway of any loose leaves or debris, turn on those lights, and cover up any hazards – Flickering faux candles make a great and realistic alternative to an open flame in pumpkins.

Bright at Night:

With our sun setting earlier and earlier, keeping things bright is key – not only turning on exterior lights to create a welcoming front door as mentioned but also for costumes. Lighter colored clothing and costumes are easier to spot and in turn, create a safer driving experience for those on the roads at night.

Keep it local:

Sticking to familiar streets in and around your home is a great way to get to know your neighbours! Halloween is a great excuse to introduce yourself and strike up a conversation with those you normally wave to from the driveway. Not to mention being able to peek inside to scope out the (friendly) competition or for some décor tips and tricks.

Let loose!

Probably the most important thing about Halloween – embrace your inner ghost, mummy or mermaid and HAVE FUN! After all, loads of free candy only comes once a year.
